NOTICE:
I have presented a summary of the events that occurred while I was a research subject of Dr. Jacobs in Conversations with Dr. David Jacobs - Audio Clips, which may be of help in understanding the full meaning of the audio clip presented here. In addition, this summary includes information about Elizabeth's polygraph test.
In February 2007, "alien abduction" researcher, Dr. David Jacobs, of Temple University, told me that he had received a "warning" from an alien-human "hybrid", via AOL Instant Messenger, saying that it was dangerous for him to work with me as there were "hybrids" around me who were very concerned about "security".
The instant messaging communication concerned originated from the computer of Dr. Jacobs' webmaster, Elizabeth Smith (pseudonym), who was also his research subject. (Elizabeth uses, amongst others, the pseudonyms "Becky", and possibly, "Karen" as well.) I came to the opinion that Elizabeth had written the "hybrid" instant messaging herself. Dr. Jacobs, however, told me that he believed that it was authentic. In hindsight, I am of the opinion that he was engaged in an abusive psychological "game" with her, that he subsequently involved me in.
The events that led up to the alleged "hybrid" warning on instant messenger were complex. A full account of them will be available in the future. In the meantime, I have presented some information about them here and in Conversations with Dr. David Jacobs - Audio Clips.
I was referred to Dr. Jacobs in 2002 by my former therapist. In 2004, Dr. Jacobs asked me to become his research subject. He presented himself to me as a professional researcher and expert in the subject area, and I understood that he was doing scholarly research under the auspices of Temple University.
Dr. Jacobs told me that he thought that my record of my anomalous experiences would make a good contribution to the field of "alien abduction" research. In late 2005 / early 2006, he suggested publishing it anonymously on his website. He assured me that Elizabeth, his webmaster, who would put my material on his website, was completely trustworthy and that she would guarantee my anonymity. (He had already told her my first name and the location where I live which, put together with my record of my anomalous experiences that contained details of my life, were potentially identifying. She subsequently learned my surname as well.)
Once Dr. Jacobs involved Elizabeth in his work with me, however, I was pulled into a bizarre situation regarding her own "experiences". During that time, Dr. Jacobs began receiving communications from her computer via email and AOL Instant Messenger which she told him were from two alien-human “hybrids” associated with her, whom she called "the Enforcer" and "Jay" respectively.
On a number of occasions, Elizabeth's alleged "hybrids" referred to me and to my record of my anomalous experiences. On one occasion Elizabeth said that she had seen "hybrids" throwing me down on a bed and assaulting me.
Dr. Jacobs began to engage in a series of highly questionable and psychologically abusive "tactics" to protect himself from "hybrids". This included him implanting hypnotic suggestions in my mind that I had Multiple Personality Disorder (see Dr. David Jacobs' Hypnotic Suggestions of Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD)), ostensibly so that hostile "aliens" would not know that he was researching my anomalous experiences.
Throughout 2006, the situation degenerated. The effects of Dr. Jacobs' behavior on me were compounded by the vulnerable position that I was in as his research subject being regularly hypnotized by him, and eventually caused me severe stress.
Previously, in August 2005, ten months before Dr. Jacobs had begun receiving "hybrid" communications from Elizabeth's computer, she had claimed that her "experiences" had suddenly changed. This was soon after Dr. Jacobs had put me on an intensive fortnightly schedule of hypnosis sessions to investigate my anomalous experiences.
In Elizabeth's former blog site account of her experiences, Welcome to my World - Part 1, she talked about this:
"Suddenly, in August of 2005, I found myself unable to talk about my experiences in any form. Since I had been discussing them in detail with the researcher for years, I knew something had changed, but I had no idea what or why. I didn't know it at the time, but that marked the beginning of what I now call the "new phase" of my experiences.
"Naturally, when this sudden block occurred, I called the researcher I had been seeing and scheduled an appointment. He was also baffled as to why this had happened, and why I was sitting in his office stuttering and stammering to tell him things I had already told him months before. We agreed to try hypnosis to get past it. During that session (which was long and difficult), I found that I had been introduced to a new adult hybrid that looked and acted completely human. I was told to care deeply for him, and then told never to speak of it to anyone."
In her account Elizabeth referred to this alleged "hybrid" as "J". Dr. Jacobs told me that she named the "hybrid" herself, and that she called "him" "Jay".
Elizabeth continued her account of "Jay" saying:
"During that hypnosis session, I was able to break through the barriers placed there and I realized J was living on Earth among us. In fact, he had taken up residence in an apartment in my town and I was frequently called to help him learn to fit in to society without attracting much attention. ...
"In addition to helping J settle in, I found that I both like him very much and felt strongly protective of him. ... Eventually, my relationship with J became sexual at his prompting, causing me great guilt. I love my husband and have a strong marriage; this is not something I would have willingly done. The conflicts that arose from this were a constant source of emotional pain for me during this time.
"For the time period I knew J, I continued to work with the researcher and do hypnotic regressions. I was able to remember the apartment he lived in, and even visited it during the daytime."
Dr. Jacobs told me that Elizabeth's "hybrid" instant messaging communications with him began "in the guise of Elizabeth". He said that in May 2006, he received a communication from Elizabeth via her computer saying something to the effect that she had lied to him about everything, that she was a bad person, and that she was sorry. He told me that he immediately rejected it. He said that when he asked her about it later, she told him that she had no memory of sending it. He said that he then conducted a hypnosis session with her about it, and that she "remembered" a "hybrid" forcing her to write it.
If Elizabeth had been trying to tell Dr. Jacobs the truth when she had told him that she had lied to him about everything, it would have been a hard thing for her to have done. In my opinion, she may have lost her courage to persevere in telling him the truth in the face of his immediate rejection of it.
Dr. Jacobs said that in June 2006, he subsequently received another communication from Elizabeth's computer saying that she had lied to him. He said that this time, when the "hybrid" whom Elizabeth called "the Enforcer" had tried to force her to write it, she had "resisted", so the "hybrid" had written it himself. Dr. Jacobs said that the "hybrid" eventually "dropped his persona as Elizabeth" and began to communicate openly with him as a "hybrid".
In Elizabeth's blog site account of the start of her "hybrid" instant messaging, Welcome to my World - Part 2, she curiously did not mention the first email that she had sent to Dr. Jacobs telling him that she had lied. Instead, she just described the second event, and she recounted it as if it was the first time that it had happened. She said:
"Then, in late June or early July, another change happened. I was speaking to the researcher in an IM chat when I suddenly began to feel very tired and as if I couldn't move my body. Initially, I did not remember much else, just waking up the next day in bed and feeling as if I hadn't slept much. I didn't even recall saying goodbye to the researcher, which I found odd. Later, I learned that shortly after those feelings had overtaken me, I had typed out a message to the researcher telling him that I had been lying to him all along, I was a bad person, and that he should not listen to anything I say. He knew something was wrong and simply typed back that he didn't think I was a bad person or a liar. The conversation continued in this manner for a few minutes, and then there was a gap of time when nothing was said from my end. Suddenly, the person typing began referring to me in the third person, essentially dropping the ruse that it had been me typing all along. I eventually discovered that E had interrupted our conversation and when I began refusing to type out that I was a liar, he took over the typing."
In Welcome to my World - Part 3 (Final), Elizabeth continued:
"Over the next few weeks, several conversations did take place between E and the researcher on IM."
Dr. Jacobs arranged to conduct a hypnosis session with me in late July 2006. However, the night before he emailed me and cancelled, saying:
"Something has come up ... I do not think that I will be able to do the session with you. I will explain later."
The following day I received another email from him saying:
"I am in a slightly paranoid mood these days. The aliens have decided that Elizabeth should come down and visit me today. I do not want that and neither does she. They are obviously trying to locate me. Paranoia runs rampant as I realize that I am definitely a target for them."
Dr. Jacobs later told me that Elizabeth's husband had suggested to her that she should go and see Dr. Jacobs on that day. He said that her husband usually did not like her going to see him because it meant that he had to look after their children while she was away. Dr. Jacobs said that he believed that the "aliens" had influenced Elizabeth's husband to suggest that she go to his house so that they could follow her there, in order to find him.
In Elizabeth's blog site account of the events, Welcome to my World - Part 3 (Final)', she said:
"...on an otherwise perfectly normal day, my husband suggested I go see the researcher in person. ... he has never liked me to go out for long periods of time. We have kids and they can be a handful, so that's the primary reason. ... for him to actually suggest I go was very out of character.
"... when he suggested I go, I told him that the gas was expensive and I didn't think I wanted to. ... I found myself in an awkward position of not wanting to lie, but also not wanting to go into details of just why I didn't want to go in person for a session. My husband began insisting I go, telling me not to worry about the gas or the kids, and to just go. I changed tactics and told him that if I was going to take a break from the kids, I'd rather go visit a friend who lived about two hours away instead. Again, he began insisting I needed to go see the researcher. I finally lied and told him the researcher was on vacation, so I couldn't possibly visit him. ...
"Meanwhile, on the day this all happened, I contacted the researcher and told him of the strange behavior of my husband. We both believed at that point that E [Elizabeth's alleged "hybrid", "the Enforcer"] wanted to find him [Dr. Jacobs], and that finding him would mean the end to an equal form of communication. In short, the researcher would quickly become an abductee and be subjected to the same kinds of mind control as the rest of us."
Elizabeth said in her account that it had been an "otherwise perfectly normal day", and she did not say that her husband had given any reason for why he thought that she should go and see Dr. Jacobs. However, Dr. Jacobs told me that her husband had actually said that she was "stressed", and that therefore she should go and see him. Elizabeth told me a number of times that talking with Dr. Jacobs reduced her stress levels. If so, it would be reasonable for her husband to suggest this. This would put an entirely different, and perfectly normal, interpretation on the events.
In about early August 2006, Dr. Jacobs told me that Elizabeth's "hybrids" were trying to hunt him down on the grounds that he posed a "serious threat" to the "alien program". He said that he was "on the run" from them, and that he had to cut off contact with Elizabeth for a period.
In her blog site account of the events, Welcome to my World - Part 3 (Final)', Elizabeth said:
"Assuming the worst [after her husband had suggested that she should go and see Dr. Jacobs], the researcher and I cut off all contact. I was plunged into a deep depression thinking that if they did find him, it would be my fault. ... I resolved to not let that happen under any condition and I got very, very angry. ... The mental pressures on me were intense, and naturally, punishments were given when I wouldn't cooperate. ... Being cut off from the researcher and now terrified to talk to anyone else in case I involved them, I felt more alone than I ever had before. My depression deepened and I began to think it would be a blessing if they carried out the threats to kill me. The thought of my children was about the only thing that kept me hanging on through that dark time.
"Slowly, the pressures began to ease ever so slightly. I heard through mutual friends that the researcher had not been found, so I knew I was holding back with E and all the rest of them successfully. ...
"As the weeks went by, several messages to and from the researcher were passed. As far as I'm aware, he has not been visited."
Elizabeth gave the impression in her account that she and Dr. Jacobs cut off contact for many weeks. However, Dr. Jacobs told me that it was only for two weeks. I understand that these two weeks coincided with his vacation.
Dr. Jacobs told me that during his vacation he was "terrified" of Elizabeth's hybrids" finding him. He said that certain members of his family were also "terrified". and that one of them had armed themselves with a baseball bat, a crow bar, and a large knife. He told me that the family member who armed themselves offered him the knife for his protection.
The events that Elizabeth related implied that if there are, in fact, "aliens", "hybrids", and an "alien program", that these "hybrids" and "aliens" were reliant on her disclosing Dr. Jacobs' location in order to find him. However, Dr. Jacobs has worked with scores of "alien abductees" who have been to his home for hypnosis sessions. He told me that a percentage of the students in his classes at Temple University were also "alien abductees", whom he was seeing on a regular basis every week. This begs the question as to why the "aliens" did not simply use another of Dr. Jacobs' research subjects, or one of his students, to tell them where to locate him. The notion that Elizabeth was the sole person able to provide this information, and that she single-handedly held off an entire "alien" species from finding it out, seems unlikely.
In early-mid August 2006, Dr. Jacobs told me that he thought that he was making headway in coming to a resolution with Elizabeth's "hybrids". However, on August 16, 2006, he sent me an email saying:
"Perhaps I spoke to [sic] soon about the resolution with the hybrids. It seems that they are still interested in visiting me. Perhaps another week or two of silence will make them lose interest. I doubt this, however. They want to know how I am using the information I got from Elizabeth and, here is an important point, who I told about it. So, it seems that I am still the "object of their desires."
On August 21, 2006, Dr. Jacobs sent me another email saying:
"I am in a rather severe crisis with the aliens. I will be talking to them tonight about my future and what they will or will not do to me. I have some leverage in the situation but I am unsure of how it is going to turn out. We just returned from holiday tonight and I am extremely tired (8 hour drive). I will talk with them sometime between 12:00am and 1:00am my time which is in about two and a half hours."
Dr. Jacobs told me that the "leverage" that he had against Elizabeth's "hybrids" consisted of an address that she had given him of an apartment where one or more "hybrids" were living. He said that if he disclosed the address, that it would put the "hybrids" in danger. He told me that if they came after him, that he would use that "atomic option" against them.
Later, Dr. Jacobs told me that he had worked out an "agreement" with Elizabeth's "hybrids": he would not disclose the address of the "hybrid" apartment, and in return they would not continue to try to locate him in order to put an "implant" in him to "monitor" him. Instead, they would talk to him regularly on instant messaging in order to "keep an eye" on what he was doing.
On September 27, 2006, Dr. Jacobs sent me an email about this, saying:
"They have already told me that they will remain in contact with me many years if not for the rest of my life. The only reason they are not monitoring me (i.e., abducting me, putting an implant in me and the [sic] examining my memories, etc.,) is because I have evidentiary leverage over them and an agreement was worked out). Monitoring, they told me, was the way that they did these things and they really wanted to do it to me."
Dr. Jacobs told me that Elizabeth's "hybrids" constantly stressed the secrecy of the "alien "program" during their instant messaging communications. However, it seems unlikely that "aliens" intent on preserving secrecy would make an agreement to have regular conversations on AOL Instant Messenger with a leading, high profile UFO researcher, who writes books and articles, gives public talks, goes on television and radio, and teaches a regular university curriculum course on the subject.
Elizabeth then began to claim that her "hybrids" were putting extreme pressure on her not to put my record of my anomalous experiences on Dr. Jacobs' website.
On September 13, 2006, Dr. Jacobs sent me an email about this, saying:
"E. [Elizabeth] has been under extreme pressure to stop doing your record. We are working on that and she is fighting through it.
At the same time, Dr. Jacobs received a warning from Elizabeth's "hybrids" via instant messenger saying that they might pass on information about his whereabouts to other "groups" of "hybrids".
In his September 13, 2006 email to me, Dr. Jacobs said:
"[Elizabeth's] group has not guaranteed me that they will not tell "other" groups about my whereabouts if it comes up. They brought this up during our last IM conversation, but I do not think that they mean your particular group. However, they have made it clear to me that if asked, they will relay any information they have about me. That, of course, has made me quite nervous."
I have an open mind on the question of whether "hybrids" exist or not, and if so whether there are different "groups" of them. However, if there are, the fact that Dr. Jacobs was only working with Elizabeth and myself meant that my "group" was the prime candidate.
I have a sleep disorder in which I engage in a range of complex behaviors while asleep. I appear to meet The American Sleep Disorders Association's minimum criteria for a diagnosis of REM sleep behavior disorder (see My Sleep Disorder for details.)
My sleep behavior has occurred throughout my life, and I do things such as making telephone calls, writing notes, getting up and walking to the front door, and so on, while asleep. It appears to be triggered when I am in stressful, or new, situations.
By late 2006 I was extremely stressed by what was happening. On a number of occasions, some emails were sent from my computer to Dr. Jacobs', Elizabeth's, and my former therapist's computers. In addition, a number of silent telephone calls were made to Dr. Jacobs from my telephone. All the emails and telephone calls occurred during periods of time when I was asleep, and I had no memory of them.
Dr. Jacobs was already receiving emails and instant messaging communications from Elizabeth's computer which she told him were from "hybrids" associated with her. He said that he therefore believed that the emails from my computer, and the phone calls, were from "hybrids" associated with me. At first I believed that myself, and I became further enmeshed in Dr. Jacobs' and Elizabeth's probable dysfunctional psychological "game".
The content of the emails was brief, and mainly consisted of statements that I should not do the website, as well as short sentences saying things that during hypnosis sessions I remembered "hybrids" and "aliens" saying to me (I now believe that most of my hypnotic memories were confabulated following extensive leading and suggestion from Dr. Jacobs (see My Hypnosis Sessions with Dr. David Jacobs - Background Information).)
I eventually recognized my own style of language in the emails. I went through a difficult period of several months in which I was worried that I had written them, but I did not know how. On a number of occasions I tried to raise the possibility with Dr. Jacobs that I had written the emails, but each time he rejected it, saying that it was "not possible".
I subsequently received a number of emails from Elizabeth's computer in response to my emails. Dr. Jacobs said that he believed that they came from "hybrids" associated with her.
Dr. Jacobs then began to send emails to me which he had written to my "hybrids". He asked me to leave them out where "hybrids" could see them.
In late 2006, Dr. Jacobs told me that he had an instant messaging conversation with Elizabeth's alleged "hybrids" in which they talked about my emails as having come from "hybrids" associated with me. He said that her "hybrids" had also said that they had a "meeting" with my "hybrids" about it. He told me that her "hybrids" had said that "aliens" with higher authority (from memory, referred to as "the ones above", or something like that) had stepped in. He said that these "ones above" had eventually stopped the "hybrids" associated with me from sending the emails.
I continued to try to raise the question with Dr. Jacobs as to whether I could have written the emails myself, but he continued to tell me that it was "not possible".
On January 13, 2007, Dr. Jacobs conducted a hypnosis session with me on one of my emails. During that hypnosis session, I remembered "hybrids" coming into my room and making me write the email. At one point I remembered a "hybrid" standing next to me and staring at the keyboard as I wrote it.
After the hypnosis session, vague memories started to come back to me of writing the email, but the "hybrid" was not there. In hindsight, I think that I probably wrote the email in my sleep as part of my sleep behavior, but that I woke up slightly as I was writing it. I think that it was probably me who was staring at the keyboard, not a "hybrid". I believe that I most likely confabulated the memory of "hybrids" during the hypnosis session as a result of strong leading and suggestion from Dr. Jacobs, and based on a blend of memories of my dreams and my own subconscious fears.
I told Dr. Jacobs that faint memories had come back to me of writing the email, but that the "hybrid" was not there. He responded that I could not have written the email myself, saying that the only thing that I could question was whether the "hybrid" had written it, or whether he had dictated it to me.
Shortly after I ended my work with Dr. Jacobs in early 2007, I remembered that several years before I had written notes in my sleep (see My Sleep Disorder.) I came to the conclusion that I had written the emails in my sleep while dreaming about what Dr. Jacobs and Elizabeth had told me, and that this was triggered by the stress that I was under. Justin Armstrong (pseudonym), my former therapist, whom I consulted, also considered that I had probably written them myself while asleep.
I told Dr. Jacobs this, and his response was belligerent and insulting. If I did write the emails in my sleep, then the communications that Dr. Jacobs received from Elizabeth's "hybrids" on instant messenger saying that "hybrids" associated with me had written them, and that the "ones above" had eventually intervened to stop them doing so, is obviously false. If this is the case, it would cast doubt on the veracity of all of Elizabeth's claims. In my opinion, this may have been the reason for Dr. Jacobs' aggressive response.
In mid 2007, I eventually woke up sitting in front of my computer and about to write an email. I had been dreaming about an "alien" telling me about a change, and I think that I had been going to type something about that. This confirmed to me that I had written all the emails myself while asleep. I wrote to Dr. Jacobs and told him about this, but he did not respond.
Through a difficult series of events, I eventually came to the opinion that Elizabeth was a hoaxer, and that she had fabricated at least some, if not all, of her "experiences". I reached this view primarily because of the numerous apparent inconsistencies and contradictions in her claims. In my opinion, the fact that I almost certainly wrote my emails in my sleep supports this.
In addition to the apparent inconsistencies in Elizabeth's claims, a number of other factors rang alarm bells. She told me many times that she was depressed, and that talking to Dr. Jacobs on instant messenger helped to reduce her stress levels. On a number of occasions, when he cut their almost daily instant messaging conversations short, she told me that she was upset about it.
In early 2007, after a period when Dr. Jacobs had not conducted hypnosis with Elizabeth for a while, he told me that she wanted to start doing it again. Previously, she had told him that her "hybrids" were interested in his hypnosis methodology, and he said that he was concerned to prevent "them" from finding out about his hypnotic induction process. Later, he told me that he had started conducting hypnosis with Elizabeth on instant messenger, that he was not having to perform any hypnotic inductions, and that she was "remembering" her experiences. The fact that she "remembered" her experiences under such questionable circumstances was, in my view, a serious warning indicator about their veracity. In my opinion there was obviously a strong possibility that she had set up a situation with Dr. Jacobs whereby she could talk to him on instant messenger about fabricated "events", because it alleviated her stress levels.
Dr. Jacobs told me that Elizabeth had said to him that she was losing interest in her husband and her children. I was concerned for her and I tried to raise the possibility with him that this was a symptom of the depression that she often said that she was suffering from. He refused to acknowledge this possibility, and said that the "aliens" had made her feel that way.
Dr. Jacobs told me that some of Elizabeth's children had problems, and that one of them was a special needs child. He said that people from her children's school often called her in connection with problems with the children, and that she then had to go down to the school to sort them out. He said that she had started frequently missing the school's calls, and that this was because she was being "abducted" during those times.
On March 3, 2007, Dr. Jacobs gave a talk at the 16th Annual International UFO Congress Convention & Film Festival, titled 'Abductees' Hidden Lives', in which he talked about the problems that Elizabeth had missing calls from her children's school. It is available on DVD through Mothership Productions.
At the point numbered 42:29 on the DVD, Dr. Jacobs says:
"One problem that I've - I've had is, a person is abducted after she gets up in the morning. The kids leave for school. The husband leaves for work. She's alone, and that's when she's abducted. The problem is, is that she has a couple of kids who have difficulties at school. And one is a special needs child. And, she uses her cell phone as the alarm to wake her up in the morning, and she - she depends on her cell phone for everything. Oftentimes things will happen at school, and they call her, and there's no answer. She has missed as many as six or seven phone calls frantically from school, about the kid being sick, come and pick up the kid, the kid acting up, come and pick up the kid, she needs to come in and deal with the kid right now, and - and they can't get a hold of her. And this makes her so angry. She's always, always, always angry at this. Because it's getting in the way of her ability to care for her children. And these are emergency situations, where the school is calling her, and she misses - and she can tell by her cell phone that - that they called at ten, they called at eleven, they called at eleven-fifteen, they called at eleven-twenty, they - and that sort of stuff. And - and she - she has no idea where she was. Now, she knows of course, she was - she was somewhere else. But the fact is, is that she's angry now, because this can be a difficult situation obviously. It's - it's - these are her children. And she's filled with guilt that she can't be there. So she has to make up excuses to the - to the school. "Well, I was busy", or, "I was sick", "I was this - ", or, "I must have been in the bathroom and I didn't hear" - you know, anything. And - and eventually she said she starts to - you - you run out of excuses. As they told her, she's one of the most difficult people they've ever dealt with in trying to get a hold of in the morning. No - no parents are like that. If they know the parents are at work, they call the parent at work. If they know the parents are home, they call the parents at home. And if you have a cell phone, the cell phone is with you at all times. And they call her on her cell, and she never answers. If this goes on long enough, I - you can actually see a scenario of the State stepping in and saying, "You're not taking care of your children well enough." Or - or some horrific thing like that. I hope it doesn't lead to that, and it may not. But you can see a situation where something like that could happen. And there's nothing she can do about that."
In late February 2007, Dr. Jacobs told me that one of Elizabeth's children had gotten into serious trouble at school and had been suspended. He said that she had not taken the calls from the school because she was being "abducted" at the time. Eventually some people from the school had gone to her house and had found her there. He said that she had just been brought back from the "abduction". She had then had to try to explain to the school why she had not taken their calls.
Dr. Jacobs subsequently told me that during one of his regular instant messaging conversations with Elizabeth, she had talked to him about her child being suspended from school and about her not taking their calls. He said that she was very angry about it, and that he had cut their instant messaging conversation short because she was so angry. He said that he had then received an email from one of her "hybrids", saying that she had an "emotional disturbance" or an "emotional imbalance", or something like that, which was causing them concern. He said that the "hybrid" had said that the conversations that he had with her on instant messenger helped to correct this emotional problem, and therefore, that he had to do it with her more often. If not, that he had to show "them" how to do it, so that "they" could do it. Dr. Jacobs read me the email. From memory, either this email, or another one that Dr. Jacobs read me, concluded with the "hybrid" saying, "Perhaps it is time for a chat?" In my opinion, there was clearly a strong possibility that Elizabeth was trying to get him to talk to her on instant messenger because it helped to reduce her stress levels. Dr. Jacobs, however, seemed slightly amused by it.
On February 24, 2007, Dr. Jacobs had an instant messaging conversation with Elizabeth's alleged "hybrid", "Jay". Afterwards, Dr. Jacobs told me that "Jay" had "warned" him that it was dangerous for him to work with me, as there were "hybrids" around me who were very concerned about "security". He acted as though he was shaken by it and said that he had to think of his safety and his family.
Obviously, if a "hybrid" did write the instant messaging conversation concerned, then that has profound implications for me and my life. However, I am of the opinion that Elizabeth probably wrote her "hybrid" instant messaging herself.
If Elizabeth did write her "hybrid" instant messaging, then the "warning" can only be seen as having been an attempt to persuade Dr. Jacobs to discontinue his work with me at that time. In my opinion, this may have been motivated by my questioning whether I had written my sleep emails myself, because if I was right about that, it meant that her claims were almost certainly false.
I had previously raised some of the discrepancies in Elizabeth's claims with Dr. Jacobs, and at that point I raised the possibility that Elizabeth might have written her "hybrid" instant messaging herself. I felt uncomfortable about it, but at that stage, it was again directly impacting on me, and I had to address it. I raised it as diplomatically as I could, as I believed that if she had done it, that it would have been as a result of personal problems that she had, and I felt sorry for her. Dr. Jacobs began shouting at me down the telephone that it was "not possible". I did not expect that reaction from him, and I was shocked.
The following day Dr. Jacobs and I had a difficult discussion about it (see Conversations with Dr. David Jacobs - Audio Clips - (Audio Clip 2).) During the conversation, he told me that he would no longer support the publishing my record of my anomalous experiences on his website. He said that this was due to the stress that he had gone through, the fact that the stress that I was under was affecting him, and because he was concerned about the "warning" that he had received from Elizabeth's "hybrid". Later, he told me that his decision was precipitated by my questioning whether Elizabeth could be writing her "hybrid" instant messaging conversations herself. In hindsight, I am of the opinion that it was probably because I had questioned a core aspect of his probable dysfunctional psychological "game" with her.
Although Dr. Jacobs said that he would no longer support the publishing of my record of my anomalous experiences on his website, he said that he would still continue to work with me on my current experiences. I had a sense that he still wished to use my material to facilitate his own research.
At that stage, however, because of the way that Dr. Jacobs was handling his situation with Elizabeth and the consequent negative impact on me personally, as well as the stress that I was under and the stress that I believed that Dr. Jacobs was under, I felt that our working relationship had become untenable. I told him that I could no longer continue to work with him. We agreed to end our working relationship, and we both expressed a desire to remain on good terms.
In mid 2007, I decided to publish my research on my anomalous experiences on this website.
Although it is my right to talk openly about what happened when I was Dr. Jacobs' research subject, I wished to move forward with my own research in a positive atmosphere. I asked him whether we could write a joint statement that explained what had occurred in a way that we were both comfortable with. He was concerned that if I talked about the events in public that it would leave him open to attack from debunkers. He became overwrought, and he responded by threatening to expose my identity (although he later retracted this threat), and to "paint a horrible picture" of me if I talked publicly about what had occurred. Although I was shocked by his response, I persevered in trying to work out an agreement with him (see Conversations with Dr. David Jacobs - Audio Clips - (Audio Clip 8).) He then did agree to work on such a joint statement.
In the meantime, Dr. Jacobs forwarded me a letter from his close friend and colleague, "alien abduction" researcher, the late Budd Hopkins, from which it was apparent that Dr. Jacobs had defamed me. I queried this with Dr. Jacobs and he denied having spoken to Mr. Hopkins. I told Dr. Jacobs that I did not accept this, and it lead to conflict between us that eventuated in the breakdown of our discussions about how to publicly describe what had occurred while we were working together.
Although Dr. Jacobs' and my discussions had broken down, because I was still of the opinion that he was being manipulated by a hoaxer, and I wanted to move forward with my own research in a positive atmosphere, I decided to write about the events myself in a way that he would also be comfortable with. I wrote a statement titled 'My Work with Dr. David Jacobs', in which I glossed over much of what had occurred. I presented only a bare outline of the events and I used words that he had suggested to me, before our discussions had broken down, to describe them (see Conversations with Dr. David Jacobs - Audio Clips - (Audio Clip 8).) I did this so that people would have enough knowledge of what had occurred to be able to assess my case and my anomalous experiences during that time, and to make clear my opinion that Elizabeth's claims were a hoax, but in a way that caused the minimum amount of embarrassment to both Dr. Jacobs and myself. In addition, as he had told me that he was writing a book about the events of 2006 and 2007, I did not go into much detail about them out of consideration for his position.
When I first published this website, in October 2007, it contained that original diplomatic account of my work with Dr. Jacobs. I hoped that this would allow both of us to move forward from a difficult situation in a positive way.
Immediately after this website was published, however, Elizabeth posted a statement titled Response to Allegations and Libelous Statements Made by Emma Woods on her former blog site. In her posting she presented an extremely dishonest account of my work with Dr. Jacobs and engaged in a character assassination of me. She alleged that I had "accused" Dr. Jacobs of "libelous charges", that I had told "blatant lies", that she had never seen him behave in any way remotely similar to how I had described, that I had "invented" the trauma that I went through "after the fact", and she implied that I was an irrational, mentally ill stalker. (Her posting was directly above her account of how she had resisted her "hybrids" attempts to use her to locate Dr. Jacobs, how her "hybrids" were communicating with Dr. Jacobs on her computer via instant messenger, and so on.) She ended her posting with an implied threat that she might at some point choose to reveal my identity.
I had provided a link in my statement about my work with Dr. Jacobs to Elizabeth's blog site account as a way to substantiate what I said about the events. Therefore I subsequently wrote a rebuttal statement to her defamatory statement.
Dr. Jacobs guaranteed to me when he first involved Elizabeth in my work that she would never reveal my identity, and I wrote to him to express my serious concerns about her posting. I have never received a response.
Elizabeth subsequently put a disclaimer at the top of her defamatory statement about me stating: "Dr. David M. Jacobs is in no way associated with the following statement. He did not contribute to it, nor did he "approve" or "disapprove" of it prior to posting. He had nothing to do with it. The ideas, thoughts, and facts contained in it are solely my own." However, Dr. Jacobs did not refute any of the outrageous statements that Elizabeth made in her posting and, instead, gave his silent support to it.
Dr. Jacobs is fully aware of the fact that many people in society consider that if someone has anomalous experiences, that it is a sign that they are mentally ill (regardless of the fact that current research indicates that in most instances this is not the case) or that they are lying. He would know that as a researcher, if he stated directly or by implication, or engaged in any action that implied, that one of his research subjects had psychological problems and/or was lying, that it would immediately be accepted without question by most people.
In my opinion Dr. Jacobs gave his silent support to Elizabeth's defamatory statement about me as a way to damage my personal reputation by implication so that no one would take seriously what I said about his unethical behavior towards me.
I realized that in order to defend my reputation and research, that I would have to present the material that I had relating to my work with Dr. Jacobs on this website.
I subsequently presented the audio clip below of Dr. Jacobs reading me the transcript of his February 24, 2007 instant messaging conversation with Elizabeth's alleged "hybrid", in which he was warned that it was dangerous for him to work with me. However, at that time I did not provide as much background information with it.
After presenting the audio clip of Elizabeth's alleged "hybrid" instant messaging below, I still hoped that either, Elizabeth would confess to her, in my opinion, hoax, or that Dr. Jacobs would rectify the situation. I decided to wait for several months before presenting the bulk of the information that I have relating to my work with Dr. Jacobs, to allow them the opportunity to do so. I hoped to avoid unnecessary public embarrassment to all concerned.
In June 2008, I wrote to Elizabeth asking her to rectify the situation. I never received a response.
A full account of what occurred while I was Dr. Jacobs' research subject will be available in the future. In the meantime, the information that I have presented here, in conjunction with the material that I have provided elsewhere on this website, provides an overview of what occurred.
I encourage people to view the information that I have provided in the spirit that it is presented, as an attempt to shed light on a complex situation in order to understand it, to make known disturbing psychological abuse of human research subjects by an academic researcher, to expose claims that, in my view, are a hoax, and to defend my personal reputation. The events that occurred were, on one level, a comic farce, and no doubt will provoke laughter and disbelief. But, behind that are serious issues of human research subjects being hurt by the appalling practices of a leading researcher in the field. I hope that my account of these events will illustrate some of the pitfalls of "alien abduction" research, so that others can learn from this unfortunate series of events.
It took me a long time to lose the trust that I had in both Dr. Jacobs and Elizabeth. It was a year before I reached the opinion that Elizabeth was a hoaxer. For more than a year after that, I was of the opinion that Dr. Jacobs was a victim of her hoax. It was only in 2008 that I finally came to the opinion that he would not have let himself, or his family, be in real danger from Elizabeth's "hybrids" simply in order to continue working with her. He therefore knew, in my opinion, that her claims were not real. In my opinion he displayed a callous disregard for Elizabeth's welfare as his research subject in perpetuating her "hybrid" instant messaging, because he got something out of it. In my opinion, he simply used me as part of his psychologically abusive "game" with her, with utter disregard for my welfare as his research subject. In my opinion he subsequently deliberately damaged my personal reputation in order that people would not take seriously what I said about the events. In my opinion Dr. Jacobs' behavior in regard to this issue has been unconscionable.
I have presented here an audio clip of excerpts of a telephone conversation that I had with Dr. Jacobs on May 24, 2007, during which he read me sections of the transcript of his February 24, 2007 instant messaging conversation with Elizabeth's "hybrid", "Jay", in which he was warned that it was dangerous for him to work with me. I have included excerpts of him talking about some of the surrounding events involving her "hybrids", which provide additional context.

I will explain two references in the audio clip here:
Elizabeth's alleged "hybrid" says, "There has been more contact with one of your kind ... I am confused as to why." Dr. Jacobs told me that this referred to his (Dr. Jacobs') work with me, which the "hybrid" had supposedly not known was continuing.
Elizabeth's alleged "hybrid" talks about a "misunderstanding" that occurred. This refers to the situation in late 2006 when I sent some emails while asleep. Dr. Jacobs told me that he had an instant messaging conversation with Elizabeth's "hybrids" at the time, that he told them that my emails were sent by my "hybrids", not me, and that he explained to them that it was a "misunderstanding". (Later, he told me that her "hybrids" had said that they had a "meeting" with my "hybrids" about it, and that the "ones above" had eventually intervened to stop my "hybrids" from doing it.)
"Yeah, Jay was acting as an intermediary, while the others stood around him essentially. ... Let's see, here's 2/24 - Jay. Okay. Jay, Jay, Jay, Jay, Jay, Jay. Okay, we're talking about ... talking about feelings. Talking about emotions, and how he doesn't really have 'em. Then - oh, there's a certain - talking about sexuality, and how his group does not understand what the big deal is and, you know, and why there's so much stuff written about - why there's such a ritual around it. ...
"Okay. And it says here, "There has been more contact" he said, "with one of your kind, that we had had the misunderstanding with. ... I am confused as to why. This may cause further misunderstandings."
"And I say, "I understand about your [inaudible]." Oh, I'm answering another question. Wait a second. Oh, I was trying to figure out what he said. That's what it was. Yeah. I had to try and figure out what that meant. And then I said, "[Inaudible]." And then I said something to the point of, "She's a woman who depends on me to help her understand what has been happening to her. I have never actually met her. She lives thousands of miles away." And I said you're writing a record of your childhood and young adulthood experiences to help you sort out what has been happening. "And she [inaudible]. I also know that she is not the one who caused the misunderstanding. It was her people who misunderstood what was happening and sent out those emails that caused the confusion."
"And he said, "Those of my kind who are around her are some of the more inflexible ones. They will not allow this written record, because it represents a security breach for them. Further interaction may cause them to consider you, or her, to be security breaches as well. This is very concerning for me." Then he said, "During the misunderstanding we had an interaction with them. Those who are with her now are all ones who are security task oriented. ... I assume that she is in non-compliance with this - from this. Security tasks are some of the most important. They are inflexible. You must be careful not to assist with the non-compliance. Not to interfere with their tasks in any way. If they contact you, their instructions must be obeyed. I am telling you this for your own benefit."
"I said, "Okay. Is there any way you can tell - maybe you can tell them that I am not a threat to them, and I will do nothing to interfere with them?"
"And he says, "I do not generally have continued contact with them. There are ways in which I must proceed to accomplish further contact. I am concerned however - I am concerned however." Now, when he says he's concerned, that's - that is to be taken seriously. "I will attempt to re-establish contact to control for misunderstandings."
"I said, "Actually, you'd better not. I will contact you if the need arises. I hope that it won't. I do not want to stir things up with them. I know that they've been opposed to her writing the record, but she is in compliance with everything else. The record is mainly of things that happened to her many years ago."
"Then he says, "You mentioned earlier about the attempts to find you. This is how a security task oriented individual of my kind operates. If they see a risk, they will attempt to control the risk. The methods they use are not as important as the goal of controlling the risk." In other words, the ends justify the means. "You must obey their request. This is the most important information I can give to you."
"And there was a certain chill in me when he said that. And then I said, "Thank you. I appreciate it. You think that they can find me half way around the world?"
"Distance is not viewed in the same way by my kind. If they see a risk, they will attempt to control it, no matter where it resides."
"I said, "I understand. Thank you for your advice. It is good of you to give it to me."
"And he said, "I wish to continue our conversations. This would not be possible if the others become in control. I also have come to feel some emotion over the situation." We were talking about emotion previously in the - in the thing.
"And I said, "That's good. Unfortunately, I sense your emotion is fear."
"And he said, "Some fear for you, yes."
"I said, "I will heed your advice."
"And I said - and he said, "I do not believe you understand the control they may place on you."
"And - and then he talked - I talked about paying close attention to his advice, and thanked him for warning me basically.
"And then he said, "They - they may feel you are not enough of a threat to them to control completely, but they also may - the complete control of your kind is something I have seen. You would no longer know enough - You would no longer know enough to" - it's got a typo here - "to to not like it - You may not" - it's got two "to's" - "You may not know - You may no longer" - sorry - "You would no longer know enough to not like it." Then he says, "I would miss speaking to you." And he said, "If there's any further misunderstandings, you must contact me immediately." And then he also said that, "You must obey any requests that you get to stop work. It's very important." It would be the same consequences if you were out of compliance, etcetera, etcetera. ... Yeah, what they say - if they - if they were to get in touch with me and tell me to stop X, or stop Y, or stop Z, he says, "You must obey", you know, because he is obviously one of them. But ...
"'Cause, well, a whole lot of things have happened since then, which I am not at liberty to tell you. But this has been a continuing drama. And it reached crisis proportions not very long ago. And all - it was a very, very difficult situation I got to admit for me. ...
"This time - this time they made a real serious attempt to get to me. And they almost did. It was very - it was very close. And as a result, there was a - there was a shake-up, so to speak, in the - in the people who were dealing [with Elizabeth]. ... Some were not seen again. New ones were brought in. Then there was another crisis, and then new ones were brought in.
"And then this Jay character was given a new assignment. And I talked with him a couple of times, and then since the new assignment, I have not talked with him at all. But he has been reigned in. ... Been too chummy. Too nice. Too good. Too - all that sort - I don't know what it is. I'm guessing now. I'm guessing.
"My sense is that it is all business now. All business. These chats have basically - well there - I - I've had several of them, but - but it's been a while since I've had one now. And I don't know if they are coming to an end, or what. But I hope that they are. I hope every day. I get down on my knees and pray. I hope they're coming to an end. I hope they're coming to an end. I don't want to deal with this anymore. I'm through with it. I'm sick of it. I can't deal with it anymore. It's too much. The stress is overwhelming with this. Overwhelming for me.
"And so - anyway, then he - he offered - he eventually offered to help, and all that. But - but you can see he - how he knew, you know, he - the - the one sentence was, you know, about - about yours - about my still being in communication with you. ...
"Yeah, but if they control you, you know - you see, you were sort of born into the situation, and had it all your life, and you've learned all sorts of methods to combat the control, and to overcome it, and this and that, through a lifetime of experiences. ... I think he is suggesting that - now, I don't know, I can't put words in his mouth, but I think he is suggesting that I would not know that it was happening, and that I would not know enough to know that it had happened, and therefore I would not know enough to know that my thoughts had been - are taking a different direction. And I would just think it would be normal. And ... But like he said, he wouldn't be able to talk with me anymore if anything like that happened, so ...
"I - it - it - it - it slipped in to my discussion with the Enforcer guy. It slipped in through an instant messaging that he - that he forced her to write. And then he wrote himself. And then he dropped his persona as her, and became this person who I was dealing with. And I dealt with this guy for a long time. From May to - basically to - well, on and off until August.
"And - and then Jay became the mediator, the inter- - the guy who - it was almost like a translator. He became the guy who could speak English. Who could understand things. Who was far more human than the others. ... I remember the very first, you know, time that I ever talked with him. He just said, "This is the one you know as Jay." He knew that I knew about him. And - and he - and that was in August. The first time I talked with him was in August.
"And I had been talking with the Enforcer from May. Now, I talked with the Enforcer, you know, on and off after that too, very shortly. But - but the Enforcer eventually became very, very, very erratic. And very angry. And very - and carried on, and ...
"Yeah. And then other ones had taken over. And then there were more. “Then - then - no - there was one more contact with the Enforcer that - that - that impinged on me. Where he really, really made a serious attempt to find me. This was the most serious attempt to find me ever. ... Well, they got to within a couple of miles of my house. The closest they've ever actually come.
"And I hit the ceiling, and precipitated a crisis by - by calling a conference with Jay, and threatening them. And then the shit hit the fan. And then all sorts of - and I - it - it becomes very complicated ... Right. Yeah, you know, this - this was a breach of the agreement and, you know, and - and this - this could mean the disclosure, or whatever. I can't remember what I said. Actually, it might have been more conciliatory, now that I think about it.
"And - but this is what caused Jay's downfall to a certain extent. ... And I think that Jay was blamed for some of this. So, I talked with him then, and there was another conversation afterwards I think. And - I can't remember exactly. And - and then he had another function. ...
"It's been a roller coaster. It's the continuing roller coaster. It just continues."
